Lead partner

Morbidelli Marco Farm

The lead partner is the Morbidelli Marco individual company headquarted on the in hills of the municipality of Trecastelli, in the province of Ancona, in the Marche Region
The farm cultivates an area of about 85 hectares of arable land. On the largest part of the plot, durum wheat and sunflower are grown. These two typical local crops have been complemented, in the last year, by open-field vegetable trees: borlotto bean and industrial pea are given to the “Orto Verde” agricultural joint stock consortium company cooperative of Senigallia (An) whereas cauliflower and savoy cabbage to the agricultural cooperative “CODMA” of Fano (Pu).
Around 10-15 hectares of the land is traditionally dedicated to horticultural crops. The size of this area varies from year to year depending on the contracts concluded with the CAC Cooperative. Crop rotation is largely applied to several species of seed crops, such as: hybrid hood cabbage, hybrid Chinese cabbage, hybrid onion, normal and hybrid bunching onion, hybrid chicory, parsley, carrot, coriander, chard.
The company is planning to convert part of the land to organic farming to seize new market opportunities, on both traditional arable land and seed crops, as well as to reduce the use of chemicals and synthetics, whose prolonged adoption damages soil fertility.

Farms

Tenti Carlo and Coreani Giulietta Simple l.t.d.

The farm Tenti Carlo and Coreani Giulietta is a family business located in the municipality of San
Lorenzo in Campo, south of the province of Pesaro and Urbino, in the Marche Region. It has been farming for generations and it currently manages a property of about 35 hectares of land. The main crops are seed plants in rotation with durum wheat. Horticultural seedlings have been cultivated since the early
nineties, initially on small areas, in order to test more profitable crops than cereals. At present, these vegetables are grown on 60% of the area cultivated with herbaceous species. A particular focus is put on liliaceae (onion and leeks) in intensive farming, together with full-field species such as chard, radishes, turnips and roscano and other minor ones. As the owned land is not irrigated, the farm grows mostly crops not requiring water.

Steca Daniela Farm

Since 2017, the Steca Daniela farm stands on the hills of the municipality of Montefiore dell’Aso (AP).
The farm manages about 30 hectares of land, out of which about 20 hectares are arable: 3 hectares are used for seed-bearing crops (cabbage and onion), 3 hectares for vineyards, 1 hectare for olive groves and 5 hectares for cereals. On the remaining area alfalfa is grown, which is necessary for the 25/30 heads of Marche cattle breed with the cow-calf line.
The farm has cooperated with private companies in experimental trials to evaluate protection strategies for seed-bearing species. Within the Cleanseed project, the Steca Daniela farm will carry out evaluation tests on low environmental impact strategies and on organic farming strategies against plant diseases of the grown species (onions, brassicas, carrots). Emerging pests will be monitored in organically cultivated plots.

University and research bodies

UNIVPM – Marche Polytechnic University

The Marche Polytechnic University (UNIVPM) was established in 1971 as the University of Ancona, and in 2003, its name was changed in the current form to stress its scientific and technological mission and vision. UNIVPM offers, in a stimulating and comfortable environment, excellent study and research facilities, which are located on three main campuses in Ancona. UNIVPM has increased its presence at a European level thanks to the high standard research and industrial collaborations, development and innovation. The UNIVPM Department of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences (D3A) focuses on several aspects related to management of agricultural products. The Plant Pathology team of D3A has gained a proved experience in the detection, identification and setting up of management strategies for plant pathogens affecting seed crops, in integrated and organic agriculture.

ASSAM – Agency for Agro-food Sector Services of the Marche Region

ASSAM, the Agency for Agro-food Sector Services of the Marche Region (ASSAM), is a public economic authority established by Regional Law N. 9 of 14/01/1997, as amended by regional law N. 28 of 16/09/2013. It is headquarted in Osimo Stazione (An) with operative seats spread all over the Marche Region including 2 experimental farms and 4 forest nurseries.
ASSAM is regional reference and connection point between the production system and scientific research.
In collaboration with Universities and research centres, it carries out studies and investigations within agronomic projects (cereal, wine, fruit and olive growing, horticultural, industrial crops) focusing on the biologic sector and on low environmental impact. Moreover it draws up integrated production specifications and defines innovative preventive control and eradication methods of harmful organisms. ASSAM provides services relating to certification and traceability, chemical-physical, microbiological and sensory analyses of agro food products, soil management and forestry. It publishes a weekly Agrometereologial Weather forecast, which is also available on a dedicated web site: http://meteo.marche.it/.
Besides disseminating the experimental agriculture results and information, ASSAM provides training and refresher courses regarding the primary sector.
The Regional Law N. 9 of 14/01/19979 assigned to ASSAM the functions of Regional Plant Protection Organization (RPPO) http://www.assam.marche.it/en/services1/phytosanitary .
The RPPO of the Marche Region is a government institution (Legislative Decree n.214 dated 19 08 2005) responsible for the correct application of the regional phytosanitary legislation. It implements measures against the pests’ introduction and spread on plants and plant products, safeguarding the environment.
In the Cleanseed Project ASSAM will carry out the role of public body, specialised in phytosanitary research, study and experimental results dissemination.
Dissemination and information have always been a core activity, that ASSAM carries out by means of several tools:
– web site (Italian and English version);
– social media page;
– weekly agrometereologial weather forecasts, send to several thousands of agro-food operators
The Cleanseed project dissemination tools will be workshops, webinars, field demostrations, newletters, audio and video recordings.
ASSAM will take part in drawing up protection strategies on seed bearing crops in integrated and organic agriculture, focusing on low environmental impact control measures, on their field implementation and on pests detections.
